Summary: Absolutely love this!
Comment: We have had this system for about a month now. We have 2 cats using the one unit. It took my male cat minutes to actually pee in it and a formal introduction for my female to go and use it. While they continued to use the litter for pooping. I covered the old litter box with a towel, keeping it in the room but I put the new box in the location of the old box. I kept it this way for 2 days and had no problems with them using the new system.
The female cat always wants to bury her poop but the male goes and leaves, making it easier to clean.
I change the pee pad every week and odors are not a problem. I make it a point of cleaning out the poop right away, not that leaving it ther is a problem because for some reason 'their poop doesn't smell so bad' with this system versus the litter. I was using Tidy Cats before - seemed to work the best to my liking compared to many other brands.
I have no reason to trun back - I am a believer and a happy one at that for this pellet system. I love it!

Summary: It May Take Some Time
Comment: I ordered this system for my 3 indoor cats. At first I only ordered 2 of the kits, but a week later, realizing the need, I ordered 2 more. The directions say to have a box per cat plus one. This makes sense because if one cat goes number 2 during the night, since it's not really covered up, the other 2 cats probably won't want to use that box until it's cleaned.
Please follow the directions on introducing the cat to the system. You'll find it works.
Only one of my cats had issues with the system. She really likes to cover everything so the different litter really bothered her. She had a few accidents in another room of our house. But after a month, she seems to be able to use it fine. I did have to add some of the old litter in one box for her to use it, but I'm slowly phasing that out. I just poured the old litter on one small section. That was enough for her to sense that it was OK to go in the new box.
I really like the product and it is so much better that the scoopable litter box. You'll be able to tell when it's time to change the pads as they get heavy with urine. There is no smell. I do notice their number 2 smells stronger simply because it's not covered up. The scoopers work well, but I just put my hand in a plastic bag and pick up their waste.

You may have to practice some patience like I did, but once your cat is using the box, you'll be so glad you bought it.

Summary: My tips for making this system work
Comment: We have 3 long haired cats and have tried every litter box under the sun that promised "no tracking". This system is the first that truly delivered. WE still get a few pellets outside the boxes but they are easy to pick up with our hand vacuum.
We've been using the system for 4 months now and here are some tricks we found to make it work. We find that Pet Fresh (made by Arm & Hammer and usually used for carpets is a BIG help in keeping the odors under control. It's really cheap too.)

1. Right after they go number 2, we sprinkle Pet Fresh on it. This is because one of our cats doesn't cover his poops after he goes. The scoop works best after they have a chace to dry our a little.

2. The loose stool issue. This can be a real mess trying to get them out with a scoop. I found that using paper towels or toilet paper to pick them up is the easiest and cleanest way to get them out.

3. The pan that holds the pads starts to retail the smell of urine after a month or 2. Solution: Sprinkle Pet Fresh on the pan, then put the pad in the pan.

4. Issue: the sides of the pan start to smell and poop gets stuck to it. Solution: We keep Wipes, paper towels and spray cleaner near the box and wipe the box and scoop whenever it gets bad.

5. Expense: We have found that if we look out for coupons and sales we can get the pads for about a dollar each and the pellets last a month in each box. We used to change the litter ever week and went through so much that we have found this system to actually be cheaper. The worst place to buy the pellets and pads is Petco - they are triple the price. Best place for us has been Target and Stop & Shop - we stock up when they are on sale.

6. Transitioning: It took us almost a month of increasing adding the pellets to the old litter. Every time we scooped the old litter we added more pellets. The whole time we had the new system right next to the old one. By the time the old system was almost all pellets they were using both so we got more breezes and got rid of the old. We did have a couple times where they went outside the box, but that was it.

It wasn't easy to change, but to not have litter and urine tracked all over the house is such a god send that it was well worth the trouble. My greatest fear is that they might stop making the refills! I was glad to read that someone said you could use the system without with the pads if you dump the urine every day. That would be not be ideal but it's nice to know it works. I was also thinking you could use doggie pee pads if necessary. As for the pellets, I'm going to try "Yesterdays' News" pellets and see if they would work. or may even tiny river rocks that are washable? washable pellets you don't have to replace would be awesome for the environment. Trouble is they won't get to make as money off them - but I"m going to be on the look out for something that works!
