Kolcraft Simple Shut Extension Gate The Kolcraft Simple Shut Extension Gate is one of the best baby safety gates around. It is certainly one of the most versatile models of baby gate as it features a flexible extension which makes it fit from 24.5 to 41 in. The Kolcraft gate is pressure mounted which means it is easy to take down and will keep walls or hallways from being dinged up. One of the standout features on this Kolcraft Baby Product is the gates ability to open in either direction. The gate swings wide open too with a no step over bar which helps separate it from other baby gates. The Simple Shut Gate from Kolcraft is one of the premier gates on the market.

Summary: Safety gate
Comment: We've been using the gate on our stairway to keep our dogs downstairs for about a month now. It is used frequently and is holding up well. It is a good buy for the price. The only thing that could be better is the ease of opening and closing the gate, but that improvement would probably increase the cost. It isn't difficult to open, just not as easy as opening a door.

Comment: We love this gate. It is easy to install and easy to use. We tried the wooden gates that have the adjustment bar but we kept tripping over it when we crossed into another room. This gate gets the job done for an affordable price.

Summary: Metal end: Deal killer
Comment: Its a good idea for a gate overall, however, it has a huge flaw: When you open it, the end that goes into the closing mechanism sticks out. This end is made of metal (like the rest of the gate) and if a child comes running towards this little piece, it might just puncture a hole right through the child. Its supposed to be a safety gate, but sorry, its not safe at all due to that flaw.
For other people, the gate is somewhat heavy because its metal based, also it doesn't look too appealing. Kind of like a jail cell...but these weren't my concerns.
Other than that, I like the way it swings and it isn't too difficult to open.
