Customer Rating: Summary: Very effective Comment: We have two of these gates at the top and bottom of our stairs (but not positioned directly across the stairs). My husband wanted something that was not hardware mounted, so we bought this because it was tall and pressure mounted. The top and bottom adjust individually to accomodate baseboards and in our case, banisters as well. Once you have it in place, it holds well. You just have to make double sure that you hear the latch click into place. Our 21 month old is very active. A couple of times I have not paid full attention when closing and apparently have not entirely closed and latched the gate...the little munchkin was able to pull it back open and take off up the stairs. So if you are looking for a reliable pressure mounted gate you would do well to purchase this one.
