Summary: Great gate- bad packaging
Comment: This is a great product and well made. Unfortunately it arrived without instructions. So I printed them from the KidCo website. That's when I realized pieces were missing. I returned the gate and received another one within a week. This time the template for aligning the screws was not included. Fortunately I figured it out. The gate works well and looks clean and functional.
I would suggest that KidCo pay more attention to what is in the box.

Summary: Good Gate, Worth the Hassle to Install
Comment: The Elongate wasn't easy to install, but I am happy with it so far. We needed to install 2x4s on either side of the gate to make it fit right in our 75" opening (we used an extension with the gate). The instructions in the box aren't great, but you can download a better set of instructions from the Kidco website. Once installed, the Elongate is solid and reliable. And it looks nice (white metal). The "door" is a bit narrow (21"), but it swings both ways and is easy to open and close. (You lift the "door" up to open it, and it latches on the bottom rail and at the top.) My daughter (3 years) can open and close it easily, but my son (1 year) has yet to figure it out.

Summary: Great gate!
Comment: This gate is sturdy feeling once it is set up, is easy to put together, and opens in both directions. There is one problem with the gate which is easily fixed. This gate, like many others, has an approximately one inch bar across the bottom of the opening of the gate which you must step over whenever you go through the gate. This is a trip hazard, and the fix is a small plastic ramp that attaches to the bar. If you are using the gate to go in both directions, you have to order two of them, one for each side. I ordered one, expecting it to be two sided, but the company doesn't sell it that way. Also, I have found no easy way of ordering this extremely important "extra" other than calling the company (KidCo) directly.

Summary: Very flimsy & hard to assemble - not really safe
Comment: We bought this to keep our dog in the kitchen and our son out - it was terribly difficult to install, even for my husband, who is very handy - the attachment holes on the extensions do not line up and the directions are not really directions, but just a few confusing diagrams. When it's installed across a wide opening (such as the opening between our family room and kitchen), it's very wobbly and flimsy. Also, the latch on the gate section is awkward and a child (or even a smart dog) could easily figure out how to bypass this gate. Only good thing about it is that it looks nice, but other than that, definitely would not recommend buying it.
